Rooted in Christ -- Welcomed Home with Unconditional Forgiveness
We had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. (Luke 15:32)
In Luke chapter 15 we hear the parable of the Lost Son, told by Jesus. In this parable the son of a wealthy man asks for his inheritance while his father is still living. This request, which essentially was saying, “Dad, I wish you were dead!”, must have hurt the father. The son took his inheritance, squandered it in wild living, and was soon in dire straights. When he realized his wrongdoing, he decided to return to his father, not as a son, but as one of his father’s servants. Jesus tells us that while the son was still a long way off, the father ran to meet him and gave a big “Welcome Home!” hug. The son, although he had hurt the father dearly was completely forgiven and fully restored.
Our Father in heaven does the same thing for us when we stray. He eagerly desires for us to repent of our sins and return to him. Our Father’s forgiveness, like the father in the parable, is unconditional. What a blessing we receive from our Father in Heaven! This blessing also empowers us to forgive others. The blessing empowers us to restore relationships that have been fractured by sin. This blessing allows us to live in peace as Christ rules in our hearts. May this Peace be upon you as your remain Rooted in Christ.
Growing a positive school culture
(The first in a series of articles about school culture)
Christ the King Lutheran School has seen an incredible amount of change in the past 18 months - new principal, new teachers, new families, new students, new classroom locations, new financial policies, etc. Changes such as these in a relatively short amount of time can cause stress and at times, conflict among the school families. Christ the King Lutheran School is a community which strives to do its very best as children learn, grow, discover, and develop. Families and school personnel are working in cooperation with each other to achieve shared goals for the learners. It is incredible how much can be accomplished with the partnership between families and school personnel. Because all families and school personnel are so invested in what takes place in CTK’s learning community, it is in everyone’s best interest to develop and grow positive relationships between families and school personnel. This effort begins with effective communication.
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. (Colossians 4:6, NIV)
Next week, we will begin taking a look at the concept of effective communication.

Precious is the Light He Brings ~ Moving Us to Watch Vigilantly
It makes sense to find a tax preparer who can reduce how much you owe in taxes as much as legally permissible. Yet as much as we might be drawn to a tax preparer who promises to eliminate our taxes entirely, if that tax preparer does it through deceptive, illegal practices, whatever amount might be saved in taxes isn’t worth the risk of the fines or worse.
We are right to be careful about these kinds of things, things that can affect our lives in drastic and profound ways. When it comes to our finances, our health, our freedom, or our future, we don’t want to just anyone to give us advice and direction. We want someone who knows what they’re talking about and will tell us what we need to hear even if it’s not what we want to hear.
Do we take that same kind of careful, watchful attitude toward the health and well-being of our souls? God wants us to and he inspired the Apostle John to give us some help and focus on how we can do just that. Come for worship this Sunday to hear more! Grades K-2 choir is singing too!

It’s also a chance to get clarification on CTK’s current situation and what the future looks like for this ministry. The Council encourages all CTK school families to attend!
The CTK Boosters will meet on Monday, January 27 at 6:30 in the church entryway. Topics include Parents’ Night Out, CTK school projects list, and the spring yard sale. Please plan on attending.
Students in grades 1 - 8 have completed the winter MAPS testing session. Results from these tests will be available and uploaded to TADS by early February. If you have questions about your child’s results, please speak with his/her teacher.

Christian Aid and Relief
In light of the damage caused in the Bahamas by Hurricane Dorian, our Friday mission offerings will be directed toward Christian Aid and Relief, an organization committed to helping areas impacted by disaster by meeting the physical needs of people and through their humanitarian efforts sharing with others the good news of Jesus’ never-failing love. Christian Aid and Relief has already committed funds for medical assistance in the Bahamas and we expect additional assistance to be offered as the situation continues to be assessed. To date, students of CTK have given $263.05 toward this effort.
